Paige woke up on her thirtieth birthday feeling on top of the world. She and James had fallen into a comfortable routine of seeing each other every day. They’d grab dinner after work, or lunch when she had the evening shift. On her days off, she’d go to the studio and watch him work, or just quietly keep him company and read her new discussion book.

It seemed crazy to think about, but it felt like they’d known each other for years. Things were going so well, apart from that decreasing two month time frame she refused to think about. She got out of bed when the alarm went off, rather than playing tag with the snooze button. Once she switched on her phone, it started pinging like mad. There were birthday texts from her parents, Kayla, and James.
